Spilt Milk

(1 of 2) Today is Harvey Milk Day. It is a day designated to recognize the work and accomplishments of Gay Rights Activist, Harvey Milk. We have an abhorrent cultural practice of overlooking predatory sexual behavior. I am sharing this piece and others that I have written about him and the continuous misguided efforts to raise him up and make something of him that he had no hand in making of himself.

Every predator has their protectors. Are you among his? ______________

Another significant inroad has been made today in mainstreaming pedophilia. The United States Postal Service issues the Harvey Milk commemorative stamp today celebrating his accomplishments as a gay rights activist making no mention of his proclivity for underage runaway boys … a crime in most jurisdictions. Understand … I have no quarrel with his accomplishment(s) … or the idea of a gay man featured on a commemorative stamp. My quarrel is with our collectively having long overlooked his open and notorious criminal behavior which, clinically, has nothing to do with his sexuality or sexual preference. His inappropriate relationships were open and notorious. Milk’s friend, journalist, and biographer Randy Shilts acknowledged them in “The Mayor of Castro Street” … a book I own and have read.

Whether it is the locker room, Church hall, or town hall … adult relationships with minor children cannot be tolerated regardless of the individual’s status … their accomplishment … or our own agenda. I for one will put neither lips or tongue to Mr. Milk’s “backside.” Harvey Milk does not have my stamp of approval.
