Missing an Opportunity

February is Black History Month. Would anyone actually know it? We are missing this opportunity to learn about the struggle and honor the accomplishments of our black community. We are missing the opportunity to have that struggle conversation outside an emotionally charged political circus that largely consists of exchanging accusatory soundbite epithets. Do we really want to have the “conversation” … or don’t we? Do we really want to purpose to create a just society or do we want to continue to engage in emotionally weaponized political opportunism financed by the emotional, psychological and economic suffering of an entire community of people?

February is Black History Month. Will we seek understanding and reconciliation … or will we let this month and moment pass until the next crisis?
