For our most of our lives, Middle East conflict has dominated the news and American foreign policy. I believe that our energy independence is in large part responsible for the seismic shift in Arab-American-Israeli relations ... born of an international realization that the largely single product economies of Arab nations require diversification for survival ... and that that diversification requires better 'foreign relations.' Energy independence is a key component to our economic prosperity, our global hegemony and the conduct of our foreign policy.
